New blog post: How to mirror the Russian #Wikipedia with #Debian and @kiwix
https://blog.legoktm.com/2022/03/15/how-to-mirror-the-russian-wikipedia-with-debian-and-kiwix.html
A how-to guide to set up your own read-only mirror of the Russian Wikipedia in response to threats of censorship from the Russian government.
Since Russia is banning Instagram I decided to re-open registrations.

#PravApp project is a plan to get a lot of people to invest small amounts to run an interoperable messaging service that is easier to join and discover contacts.
It will be based on #quicksy which gives a similar experience to #WhatsApp without locking users to its service by interoperability with any #xmpp service provider.
We want to offer this service under a multi state cooperative society in India. Would you join the cooperative?

Me and some other people from Free Software Community are planning to release a privacy-respecting free software chatting app, named Prav (means pigeon in Malayalam language) for Indian users, which would be interoperable with XMPP.
We want more people to get involved because we want to have democratic decision making process.
Please visit the website https://prav.app. Also, please share with your contacts.
Karnataka, a state in India, schools asking muslim women to remove hijab before entering the school premises https://thewire.in/women/staff-students-asked-to-remove-hijab-at-gates-as-karnataka-schools-reopen, humiliating muslim women in public. This is against the freedom of religion and basic human rights.
The Hindu nationalist government is the ruling party in Karnataka which is very hostile to human rights, non-hindus , dissenters, activists.

I have come to the realization that mastodon (or is it fediverses'?) discovery model of follow other instance to know their existence has both pros and cons.
Pros - things are decentralized, no central node/instance to fetch data from.
Cons - as the instance doesn't know the existence of others, interaction data are less complete.
Like for my two user instance, often times to see the complete discussion (boosts/replies/fav.) I need to switch to browser to visit OP's instance.

Ok, folks - I need lots of reach on this post. I'm the board chair for an autistic-led charity, and after 40 years of building networks and working with FOSS I don't need convincing. But: Microsoft hands out free licenses to Office365 for charities, while a good Nextcloud setup would be about £1000/yr (with support). Are there any funders who will offer long-term institutional support to help charities move to FOSS? If not, why not, and how do we fix this?
The world interests me.
